About Callisto
I’m Sophia Spencer, founder of Callisto Associates. I work with owners and small leadership teams when the business has grown, but the way it is run has not kept pace.
Why Callisto exists
Most businesses reach a point where they outgrow the way they are being run.
On the surface it can look fine. In practice, too much is being carried informally, decisions take longer, and progress depends on individual effort rather than a structure that supports it.
Callisto exists to bring enough clarity and structure at that moment for the business to move into its next phase, without the founder or CEO holding everything together.
About me
My perspective has been shaped by more than 25 years working alongside decision-makers across a wide range of industries and business stages. I’ve built and run my own ventures, raised investment, and worked mainly at board level, which has given me a clear view of where businesses tend to struggle as they scale.
How I work
I work as a practical partner to the CEO which allows me to get close enough to the business to understand how it actually operates, rather than how it is meant to operate on paper.
We start by looking at where time and energy are actually being spent in the business, which decisions keep coming back to the CEO, and where responsibility has blurred. From there, the focus is on a small number of changes that fit the existing structure, rather than introducing one-size-fits-all frameworks for their own sake. In practice, this means clearer ownership and simpler decision-making, leading to fewer bottlenecks, less rework, and more time spent on activity that genuinely moves the business forward.
How Callisto is set up
I lead the Strategic Advisory work personally. This often starts with an Operational & Clarity Audit, followed by an Operational Setup Sprint where it makes sense, and Retained Advisory where ongoing input is useful.
Alongside this, the Callisto team delivers Growth & Delivery support through defined packages, covering outreach and research, as well as messaging and credibility work, all aligned with the wider direction of the business.
